The beginning of the academic year is always an exciting time for us at PPS-PC. Not only do we get to celebrate new beginnings for the public schools, but we see a few new faces around our office as well. We have three brand new interns with us this semester, as well as a new  site coordinator who will help with our Parent Engagement Program. Please help us in welcoming these four individuals as they learn the ins and outs of strengthening public education in Pitt County. Maggie Golden: ECU Communications Intern

Maggie is a senior at ECU majoring in communications with a concentration in public relations. She is no stranger to public education, as her mom is a teacher in Beaufort, where Maggie grew up. Maggie has spent most of her life helping her mom in the classroom, and is excited to learn more about the larger picture of public education through her internship with Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County. Maggie says when she gets a break from school and her internship, she can most likely be found at the beach! Glad to have you, Maggie!

DeVont’e Arrington: ECU Master of Social Work Intern

DeVont’e graduated in May 2018 with a Bachelor in Social Work from ECU, where he completed his internship in the VISIONS program at Pitt Community College. He is excited to work with PPS-PC because of its positive voice in the community. DeVont’e says that if he is not interning with PPS or studying for school, he can be found eating Hibachi Japanese food, or watching the movie Clueless. Welcome, DeVont’e!

Christine  Ellwood: Pitt Community College Intern

Christine will graduate from PCC in May with a degree in Medical Assisting. This is a is a second degree for her, as she formerly worked with Head Start in another part of NC, a job that required her to frequently interact with public schools. Now that she is living in Pitt County, she has a close relationship with Pitt County Schools since her three children are PCS students. She is excited for the experience PPS will give her as both an intern and a parent of Pitt County Schools students. Welcome, Christine!

Deborah Brady: PEP Site Coordinator

Deborah is no stranger to Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County. She is a graduate of our Parent Engagement Program and an active volunteer who has helped us schedule community conversations, host PPS tables at community events, and recruit members for our upcoming Parent Engagement Program class. She is excited to work with PPS because she knows that engaged parents strengthen success for students, which helps the entire community. Many of you likely know Deborah from the Girl Scouts, where she serves as Membership Director for our area. We are excited to continue our partnership with you, Deborah!
