2023-2024 Community Conversations

Community Conversations are structured discussions of public-school topics designed to solicit community perceptions and opinions about public education in Pitt County. From September 2023 to April 2024, PPS-PC convened 14 Community Conversation sessions. 12 of those conversations were held in-person in locations across Pitt County. With the understanding that an in person conversation would not be possible for everyone for a variety of reasons individuals were also invited to participate in the conversation by completing a google form. There was an English version and Spanish version of the google form. The 14 conversations included 172 participants representing a wide variety of Pitt County residents. The 2023-2024 Community Conversation Annual Report will be shared with the Pitt County Schools Board of Education and senior district leadership in the coming months.

NC GreenPower Solar+ Schools Ribbon-Cutting ceremonies

Lakeforest Elementary and DH Conley High School have recently been awarded grants through the NC GreenPower Solar+ Schools program to install 20KW roof-mounted solar arrays on their respective campuses. These systems will generate over $2,000 worth of renewable electrical power each year, and the grant fully funds the equipment and installation. The grant also includes staff training and materials to be included in current science curriculums for each school. Two additional schools – Ridgewood Elementary and Chicod School – were also selected to participate in this program in the near future.
