Each spring PPS-PC, in partnership with Pitt County Schools, hosts school tours at all Pitt County Schools for anyone interested in touring a school. Thank you to the 2023 Spring School Tour Sponsors – Children’s Health Services, Haystack Realty, and Pitt Community College – for helping make this year’s tour series possible. Prior to being hired as the new Executive Director of PPS-PC in November I had only been to a few of the Pitt County Schools. In order to get to know the schools better I knew it would be important to visit the schools and get to know the principals.

Starting in December I began to schedule visits with schools and knew that the Spring School Tour series would provide me the opportunity to visit many schools in a short period of time. Since my first school visit in December I have traveled over 450 miles across Pitt County and have visited 32 of the 34 schools. I will visit the remaining schools I have not been to over the next few weeks.

I have learned so much about each of the schools in Pitt County. The tours have shown me first hand the incredible things students and staff are accomplishing every day. Students have access to incredible resources that enhance their educational experience. School staff are invested in helping students in many ways both inside and outside of the classroom. PPS-PC is committed to helping Pitt County residents learn more about Pitt County Schools and the amazing things happening in each of the schools. PPS-PC will continue to offer school tours to individual families as requested, to community leaders during the Fall Community Leader School Tour Series, and to all interested parents and others during the next annual Spring School Tour Series. Additionally we will be highlighting schools in our monthly newsletter and social media accounts.

During the 2023 Spring School Tour Series over 300 people attended 28 tours at 24 Pitt County Schools. Tour participants complete an evaluation form before and after the tour and the evaluations are shared with school principals. A highlight of a few comments included on the evaluations include: “Great opportunity to help with school decisions,” “This tour was very informative,” “All my questions were answered,” “The tour was very helpful,” and “Awesome tour, thanks for all you do!”. Whether you are considering open enrollment options, your child will be attending a different school next year, or you are just interested in touring a school to learn more about that school, PPS-PC is pleased to be a connection point between Pitt County Schools and community members through school tours. – Written by Joshua Breazeale, PPS-PC Executive Director
