During the 2022/2023 school year 25 participants have been involved in the PPS-PC Parent Engagement Program(PEP) cohort. The cohort began meeting in September and met once a month for a full day each month. PEP is a parent leadership class designed to increase positive engagement and enhance school-parent collaboration. Subjects covered include Learning Styles, Leadership Styles, School Boards, School Funding, NC Standard Course of Study, Special Needs and Data & Accountability. The current PEP cohort group brings the number of graduates from the PPS-PC PEP program to over 150 individuals. PEP graduates have gone on to serve the community in a variety of ways including as Pitt County School Board Members and as PPS-PC Board members.
PEP participants also commit to work on individual leadership projects either during PEP or in the months following the conclusion of the PEP program. The projects are designed to make an impact either with a specific school or with several schools or the district as a whole. During the PEP Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday May 17th, 2023 PEP participants had the opportunity to share about their projects. The projects are meeting critical needs and will provide resources for both students and staff across Pitt County Schools. The next PEP cohort will be meeting in the 2024-2025 school year. During the 2023-2024 school year PPS-PC will be hosting the PEP Academy which is a yearlong series of public education related workshops. Workshops last approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. Generally one – two workshops are offered each month either from 11:00 – 1:00 or from 6:00 – 8:00 at various locations around Pitt County. The topics for PEP Academy depend on current educational issues and community interest. The first PEP Academy workshops during the 2023-2024 school year will be offered in September. A full list of workshops and dates for the upcoming PEP Academy will be finalized during the summer months.
