I am running for the Pitt County Board of Education in District 7. I am a proud product of Pitt County Schools, and my children currently attend Pitt County Schools. I love this thriving community, and I am committed to advocating for student’s needs, working to make sure teachers are respected & supported, and encouraging parent engagement.  It takes all of us working together to make sure each child across Pitt County has access to all that they need to achieve academic success.  The public education system impacts everyone in our community and it is fundamental to the health of our democracy.  I believe that each child deserves every opportunity to be successful, and that a quality education is foundational for a child to reach their full potential.  Each child is special and should be supported and celebrated in our schools. I am not running to be a representative on the board for my children, but for all of our children!

If elected to the Pitt County Board of Education, I will focus on recruiting and retaining high quality, highly qualified teachers. I will recognize that the physical environment contributes to the success of staff and students, and will advocate for resources that allow our facilities teams to live out their desire to make sure that we have the best working situation available. I will keep the lines of communication open, allowing for learning conversations to occur between all parties, and using those learning opportunities to guide policy and relay decisions.

My experience with and engagement in public schools leads to my qualifications for this position. I serve on my children’s school’s PTA and School Improvement Team.  I am a graduate of the PPS-PC Parent Engagement Program.  I have visited schools across the district to learn more about their opportunities to serve students, as well as their needs.  As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I see the impact of our education system on students in higher education each day, and I have insight into supports that can ensure students are equipped with resilience and strength both now and in the future.
