Please help us give a big shout out to Pitt County Schools. Every teacher, administrator, cafeteria worker, custodian, county office employee, and EVERYONE in Pitt County Schools has worked tremendously hard to keep things running smoothly. As information changes, they alter their plans and deliver new protocols and services with a smile.
What have the schools been up to since March 13th? Well, they have prepared well over 200,000 lunches, not just for PCS children, but for any child ages 1-18. Within days of school being canceled, teachers had packets prepared for the first 10 days of learning, and starting March 30, virtual learning has been available. On April 13th they launched a daily TV show on WNCT-TV (the CW) at 12noon, made by PCS teachers to deliver instructional material to our youngest learners.
Teachers have become experts at ZOOM, offering office hours, class instruction, and social opportunities for their students online. Teachers have made “love you and miss you” videos for their students. Counselors have set up daily videos to help students cope with their feelings, and have made themselves available to families who need them. Social workers have delivered household goods and food to families who need those items most. And most importantly, Pitt County Schools has given us up to the minute communication about everything from meals, to virtual learning, to plans for getting through this crisis in ways that make us stronger on the other side.
