Each year, on the Thursday before school begins, Pitt County Schools hosts an Open House at every school. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, see your child’s classrooms, and see all the spaces students utilize outside of academic times, like the cafeteria and gym. This is also a time to get valuable information such as bus schedules, class schedules, as well as sports, club and other extracurricular information. Most schools will also have their parent leadership group available for joining or signing up for volunteer opportunities (PTA/PTO/Boosters, etc.). And of course, look for the Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County table, where you can sign up for our free monthly newsletter.  If you already receive our newsletter, feel free to send a friend our way.

Open House Schedule:

August 25, 2022

K-5: 4 pm-6:30 pm

K-8 and 6-8: 5 pm-7:30 pm

9-12: 6 pm-8:30 pm

Some tips to remember at Open House

* Remember the key points, but you don’t have to memorize everything you see and hear. There will be future opportunities to connect with the teachers and receive more information about anything you may not remember. In fact, as soon as you learn the names of your child’s teachers, send them ALL an introductory email to open the doors of communication between parents and teachers right away!

*Visit the places that you and your child have questions or uncertainties about. But don’t feel like you have to cover every inch of the school on open house night. It will be crowded and could feel a bit overwhelming, so make your list of “musts” before you go and stick to it.

*High school students, go see your teachers for THIS semester, and walk your schedule in order (go to first period first, etc.). Lunch schedules may or may not be fully worked out yet, so don’t worry about when you’ll eat lunch…rest assured that you will! You’ll meet the second semester teachers before you have their classes, so just focus on this semester at Open House. Going to the whole year at once can get a bit confusing as folks try to determine who they will see when.

*Go ahead and buy a few basic school supplies (most schools have generic lists out), but wait until Open House to find out what you need for each class. And remember you won’t use ALL of the supplies on the first day, so its okay if you need another week or two to get everything together.
