Are you a parent or community member who wants to learn more about what engagement looks like in the public schools? Would you like to connect with other parents who want to become well equipped public education advocates? The application process for our 6th Parent Engagement Program cohort is OPEN, and we are eagerly awaiting your application for this FREE opportunity!

The Parent Engagement Program meets from 8:30-2:30 on the third Wednesday of each month from October-April, with a break in December. Additionally, we share an orientation lunch in September, and a graduation ceremony and breakfast in May. Each month, participants learn from a nationally recognized curriculum about topics such as learning styles, barriers to learning, the school budget, the school grading/report card system, media relations, leadership and advocacy, and much more.

In addition to completing the program with newfound knowledge that equips them to be better advocates, participants will also begin planning an Individual Leadership Project that will help their school, or a school in Pitt County. Previous projects have included a kindness rock garden, a re-kindled PTA, an interpreting service, a new math club, parent and teacher training programs, a suicide prevention program, a new playground grant, and so much more. At this time, PPS-PC has seen 5 cohorts of the program graduate, creating approximately 100 trained parent advocates throughout the county. We cannot wait to help that number keep growing.

To apply for this free program, visit the programs portion of our website at www.ppspittcounty.org, and click on the link in our PEP section. Or, email kdibble@ppspittcounty.org to have an application emailed to you. All applications are due by June 15 to allow time for review. Applicants will be notified no later than August 15 about program selection.
