Obviously, engagement as parents has changed in the past few days and will continue to grow and change as we learn more about how the schools will continue to respond to COVID-19. There are still great ways to feel like a part of your school community while away from classrooms!

Please check our Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County Facebook page often, as we will share resources on a continuing basis as we find them.

EXTRA educational support is NOW available on the PCS website that says: COVID-19 Extended Learning Packets and will be available at school feeding sites by Wednesday, March 18, 2020 if a family does not have online access.

Book Fairs: Many elementary schools will hold book fairs in March and April. If your school’s book fair is happening during our time out of school, check to see if they are offering an online book fair. One Pitt County School has already released information about this option since they were planning on a book fair this week. This is a great way to continue to support your school media center.

Parent/Teacher Communication: No matter what the grade level, connecting with your child’s teacher or teachers can be important, even if they are doing well! Your teachers miss you and would love to hear from you and your students. Feel free to reach out to them during this hiatus, and when we return to school, don’t hesitate to ask for a parent/teacher conference to increase that relationship between you, your child, and their teachers.

Consider joining the PPS-PC Parent Engagement Program: In September 2020, Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County will commence with our 5th cohort of the Parent Engagement Program. This program meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from September-May, and participants learn how to be  well equipped and empowered advocates of public education. Each participant also chooses a project that will benefit their school or a school in Pitt County. Applications will be available in late spring, but if you would like more information now, contact Kylene Dibble at kdibble@ppspittcounty.org.
