Parents for Public Schools understands the value of a high quality education that is accessible to each child, the importance of parent and community engagement, and that strong public schools have a huge impact on the whole community. PPS-PC programs include parent leadership experiences designed to increase positive parent engagement and enhance school-parent collaboration, school tours to learn about what different schools have to offer and community conversations to provide opportunities for parents and community members to share their perspectives on topics related to public schools.

Pitt County Schools recently released a document called The Road Ahead: A Vision for Future Success. This document provides an opportunity to better understand the vision  of the district for future success. Dr. Lassiter, newly appointed superintendent, shared these words about The Road Ahead:

“Dear Pitt County families and community,

As the newly appointed Superintendent of Pitt County Schools, it is my distinct honor to welcome you all for what promises to be a year full of learning, growth, and success. I am humbled and honored to serve a vibrant and diverse community.

This year, we are focusing on our key district priorities, initiatives, or goals, such as strengthening academic programs, enhancing technology in the classroom, improving social-emotional learning, etc. We know that every achievement, big or small, results from the hard work and collaboration between students, educators, and families. We believe by working together, we can ensure that every child has access to the best education and is equipped with the tools they need to succeed in life.

In an effort to present my vision for the future success of Pitt County Schools, I encourage you to accompany us on The Road Ahead, which identifies five succinct, defining pillars that are consistent with our core values. This document will be used as a roadmap to not only provide guiding principles, but help articulate the means to reach our ultimate destination together.

I invite you to be an active part of our learning community. Whether you are a parent, guardian, teacher, or community member, your involvement and support make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. We are here to listen, collaborate, and help you in any way we can.

Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of educating your children. I look forward to working with all of you to make this year remarkable. We believe in you.”

In the Road Ahead the 5 PCS defining pillars are highlighted –

PCS Inspires – sparks creativity, hope and determination in students, staff and the community, inspiring everyone to reach their highest potential

PCS Empowers – nurtures meaningful connections by actively involving students, families and the community in education

As 2024 comes to a close many new possibilities lie ahead in 2025. How will you be engaged in the new year? Consider connecting with one of our PPS-PC programs –

Parent Engagement Program – A new cohort will be meeting during the 2025-2026 school year. Interested in being a part of that cohort? Email jbreazeale@ppspittcounty.org

Community Conversations – Be a part of a Community Conversation. Multiple sessions will be scheduled in January through March.

School Tours – Get to know a school by attending a tour during the Spring School Tour Series. At least one tour of every school will be offered between February 3rd and  March 13th.

In 2025 make a commitment to engage in a meaningful way with your child’s school.
