My name is Levi C. Smith Sr. School Board candidate for District 5. I am the father of three son’s and nine grandchildren who are attending or have graduated from Pitt County Schools. I live in Winterville on Cooper Street where I was raised, graduated from Winterville High School, Pitt Technical Institute with a Business Administration Associate Degree and studied at Mount Olive College.

I have been married to a wonderful lady for 54 years. I am a United States Air Force Veteran. I am a Christian and serve as a deacon, chairman of the board, youth/adult sunday school teacher at Reedy Branch OFWB Church. I retired from DuPont after 37 years of service working as a Lab Technician, Supervisor, Manager and Plant Quality Manager. I am a part time Real Estate Broker.

I have served my community as President of Athletic Booster Clubs and Civic Clubs. I founded the Pee Wee Baseball and Saturday Morning Basketball Programs in Winterville and coached Youth Baseball for 47 years. I was honored by the Town of Winterville with the new baseball field being named the Levi C. Smith Sr. Field and by the N.C. State Senate for the many years of community service to the Town of Winterville and its citizens.

My son’s and grandchildren are a blessing from God to me and I am very concerned with the safety of our children, those who have fallen behind due to Covid shutdowns, parents not being a part of the decision making process on policies, procedures and the curriculum being taught to our children in our schools. Then from a teacher perspective, many of our schools are at or over capacity which strains physical and human resources. Transportation is an issue and teachers are leaving the classroom at alarming rates. We have a lot of issues and concerns

In our schools. I have a close relationship with my grandchildren and daughter in law who is a teacher so I am very versed on what is going on in our schools.

I have 37 years of business experience dealing with personnel, policies, procedures, constructing and implementing million dollar budgets. I have chaired many committee’s in the workplace, my church and in my community. I am the best candidate to represent our children, parents and teachers in District 5.
