In January of each year PPS-PC offers a workshop called Kindergarten 101. The workshop is designed for families who have a child who will be starting kindergarten in the fall. Local education experts collaborate to provide information and answer questions about the start of the kindergarten experience.
Presenters include:
-PCS Director of Elementary Education: What does a student learn in kindergarten?
–PCS Director of Data, Research and Accountability: What do I need to do to ensure my child is enrolled?
–PCS Student Services Director: What is Open Enrollment and is it an option for my family?
–PCS Elementary School Principal: From an administrator’s perspective what advice would you share as my child prepares to start school?
–PCS Director of School Nutrition: My child has dietary restrictions, what do I need to do?
–PCS School Nurse Program Director: What is the role of a school nurse in Pitt County Schools?
–Local Pediatrician: From the perspective of a doctor, what do we need to be aware of as our child prepares to start school?
–Parent who recently had a child start kindergarten: What do you wish you had known prior to your child starting kindergarten?

PPS-PC 2025 Spring School Tour Series
In addition to the workshops, families also have the opportunity to tour schools during the Spring School Tour Series scheduled in February and March. A school tour is scheduled at all Pitt County Schools. Children are invited and encouraged to attend school tours with their family. Tours typically last about an hour.
