End‑of‑Grade & End‑of‑Course Testing – What to Know

As the school year winds down, students across Pitt County are preparing for an important milestone: End‑of‑Grade (EOG) and End‑of‑Course (EOC) testing. These assessments, required by the State of North Carolina, take place during the final 10 days of the school year and play a key role in measuring student learning and school progress.

Tips to Prepare for the Test

We know testing season can bring nerves, but it also brings an opportunity for students to shine. Encourage your child to:

  • Get plenty of rest – a well-rested brain helps with focus, memory and confidence
  • Eat a good breakfast – start the day with fuel for your brain and body
  • Read carefully – take your time and read every question fully before answering
  • Families Matter – encouragement, positivity and calm routines go a long way

Why These Tests Matter

EOG and EOC assessments help the state determine how well students have mastered grade‑level standards in core subjects. In addition to proficiency, the state also evaluates student growth—how much academic progress students have made throughout the year.

Who Takes Which Tests?

All 3rd–8th graders:

End‑of‑Grade Reading and End-of-Grade Math

5th & 8th graders:

End‑of‑Grade Science

High school students:

Math 1 EOC

Math 3 EOC

Biology EOC

English II EOC

These assessments help ensure students are on track and that schools have the information they need to support learning.

Teachers and students have worked hard all year to prepare, and we wish every student the very best as they demonstrate what they’ve learned. Best of luck to all students—we believe in you!

2026-2027 School Reassignment Applications and Registration

The Reassignement application window is open and will remain open for families currently enrolled in Pitt County Schools to complete through June 30th. One of the primary reasons a family would fill out a Reassignment Application is to request to attend an Open Enrollment School. The list of approved Open Enrollment Schools for the 26-27 school year is updated on a regular basis and can be reviewed HERE.

Registration for incoming kindergarten students as well as students in all other grade levels that were not enrolled in a Pitt County School during the 25-26 school year, is ongoing. Families can complete the registration application by clicking HERE. It is helpful to schools for families to register their child for the upcoming school year as soon as possible so that schools can best plan for the upcoming school year.

As a reminder students entering Pitt County Schools for the first time, regardless of age, will need to have a physician complete the NC Health Assessment Transmittal Form.
