Pitt County Students Shine at the 2026 Battle of the Books Competition
On Wednesday, February 18, and Thursday, February 19, fourth- and fifth‑grade students from 18 Pitt County schools showcased their reading skills and teamwork during the annual Battle of the Books competition. This event brings students together to compete as teams answer detailed questions from the 16 titles on the 2025–26 Battle of the Books list, rewarding not only quick thinking but months of dedicated reading and preparation.
The first day of competition featured all participating schools, with teams demonstrating impressive recall, strategy, and collaboration. From that field, six top‑scoring teams advanced to the district championship round held on February 19.
After an exciting competition on February 19, Ridgewood Elementary earned the highest score and will proudly represent Pitt County at the upcoming regional competition. Their achievement reflects countless hours of reading, practicing, and building confidence as a team.
A heartfelt congratulations goes out to every student who participated and to the coaches who guided them. Their commitment to literacy, teamwork, and academic excellence made this year’s Battle of the Books a memorable success.
