The beginning of a new school year brings with it lots of fun activities and events. This information is intended to help keep you informed about several back to school essentials as the new school year begins. 

Center for Safer School Videos 

In order to comply with state law (Session Law 2023-128) Pitt County Schools is required to show videos presenting “likely warning signs indicating that a child may be a victim of abuse or neglect, including age-appropriate information on sexual abuse” to students in grades six through 12. These videos were created by the North Carolina Center for Safer Schools and must be shown no more than five days after the first day of the school year. Parents of a middle or high school student should have received an email or other notification from the administrator of their child’s school with communication on these videos and the school’s plan for showing those videos to its students. Families are encouraged to have a follow up conversation with their kids at home after viewing the videos. Suggested questions for video follow up conversation – 

After watching the video, what other questions do you have (that your parents or other trusted adult can help answer? Can you identify ways that teachers and coaches have a positive influence on students? Can you identify trusted teachers and/or coaches in your school that you can talk to if you have concerns about a friend or classmate?

Infinite Campus – New district student information system

Pitt County Schools, along with many other districts in the state, has transitioned to a new student information system, NCSIS powered by Infinite Campus. This new NCSIS provides additional features to help you monitor your child’s educational progress and a mobile friendly experience that makes it easier to see everything on the go! This system replaced PowerSchool as your one-stop-shop for grades, attendance, assignments and other important school information. You can review the information about Infinite Campus on the district website. Parents will need to create a new login for the new system.

Immunizations and Health Assessment

North Carolina Law requires that children entering public schools must have up-to-date immunizations and a health assessment. Parents/ Guardians must provide the school with an up-to-date immunization record. All children new to NC public schools (including transferring from private, charter, and home schools) must present a health assessment transmittal and an immunization form within 30 calendar days of the student’s first day of attendance. Please contact your school nurse with any questions about the required immunizations and health assessment.
