Building Strong Foundations for a Bright Future
Each January, Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County (PPS-PC) hosts Kindergarten 101 workshops to help families prepare for one of the most important milestones in a child’s educational journey. Kindergarten is a year filled with growth, learning, and discovery—it lays the foundation for success throughout the K–12 experience.
Starting kindergarten can be both exciting and overwhelming for families. These workshops are designed to answer questions, ease concerns, and provide valuable information about what to expect in Pitt County Schools.
What Families Learn
Presenters include school district staff, community partners, and parents who share insights on:
- Kindergarten curriculum and classroom expectations
- Enrollment and open enrollment processes
- Dual language immersion programs
- The kindergarten experience from a school, classroom, and parent perspective
- School nutrition and the school nurse program
- Guidance from pediatricians on school health assessments, vaccinations, and common school germs
The goal is simple: to ensure families feel better prepared and more informed as their children begin kindergarten.
Looking Back
In January 2025, more than 100 participants attended one of three Kindergarten 101 workshops—including our first-ever Spanish-language session, a milestone in expanding accessibility for all families.
