2026 Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive
The Annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive took place on Saturday, August 8th, bringing together families, organizations including: Hyster Yale, State Employees’ Credit Union, Pitt County Sheriff’s Department and Huntington Learning Center, and community partners to support Pitt County students as they begin a new school year. This year’s event was proudly sponsored by The Daily Reflector.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the 2026 drive collected over 14,300 school supply items. Donations included:
- 177 backpacks
- 955 composition notebooks
- 1,039 pocket folders
- 1,104 glue sticks
…and thousands of additional essential supplies.
After the event, all donated items were delivered to the School Social Workers Office. School social workers assist distributing supplies to schools and students who need them most. Their work ensures that every child—regardless of circumstance—can start the year with the tools they need to learn and succeed.
This year, many families are feeling the strain of rising costs for basic goods, including school supplies. The overwhelming support for Stuff the Bus reflects the heart of our community and its commitment to ensuring students have what they need to thrive.

While Stuff the Bus meets an important need today, PPS‑PC and partners across North Carolina continue to advocate for a future where every public school is fully funded and fully resourced—including guaranteed access to school supplies for every student.
Our hope is that one day, events like Stuff the Bus will no longer be necessary, and community support can shift toward new and meaningful ways of strengthening public education.
Public schools are a public good. When we invest in them, we invest in the future of Pitt County.

PCS District Leadership Honored at National Public Relations Association National Seminar
Pitt County Schools was recently represented on the national stage as Superintendent Dr. Steve M. Lassiter and Reggie Hines, Digital Media/Marketing Communications Specialist, were recognized during the National Public Relations Association (NSPRA) National Seminar in New Orleans.
Dr. Lassiter was honored as one of NSPRA’s 2025-26 Superintendents to Watch, a national recognition celebrating innovative and visionary school district leaders who are making a significant impact through effective leadership and communication.
Reggie Hines received seven National Awards from NSPRA for excellence in Publications and Digital Media. The awards recognize outstanding achievement in school communications, digital storytelling, graphic design, and multimedia production.
