At Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County (PPS-PC), our mission grounds every program, event, and conversation we lead: to advance the role of families and communities in securing a high-quality public education for each child. In a year filled with challenges, this mission has never been more vital—or more powerful.

Did You Know?

  • Public schools are among the few institutions where federal, state, and local governments all share responsibility for both funding and decision-making. For Pitt County Schools, that support breaks down to 23% federal funding, 61% state funding, and 16% local funding.
  • PPS-PC was proud to serve as a Gold Sponsor for the 2025 Educators Network Reception, an annual event that brought together over 200 educators and local business leaders this September.
  • In October 2024, PPS-PC partnered with the Pitt County Educational Foundation to host a Board of Education Candidate Forum, giving voters the opportunity to hear directly from candidates about their priorities for public education.

Across the nation, public schools continue to face funding pressures, policy shifts, staffing shortages, and expanding private school voucher programs. Yet despite these obstacles, good things are happening every day in Pitt County Schools. Pitt County Schools educators show extraordinary dedication, creativity, and resilience. With the right resources and strong community support, public schools remain the bedrock of a healthy democracy and a strong local economy.

Community Connections: Strengthening the Bridge Between Schools and Families

This year has brought its share of disappointments for those who care deeply about public education—from budget freezes to staffing cuts at the Department of Public Instruction to mounting pressure from private school voucher expansion. Through all of this, PPS-PC has continued to focus on what we know matters most: bringing communities together in support of every student.

Community connections are essential. They inform, empower, and unite families, educators, and citizens. They also help parents understand the challenges facing public schools—and how they can use their voice to advocate for equitable resources and strong support systems. PPS-PC works to ensure every child is seen, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
