
WHO:
Anyone interested in learning more about public education and how to support our public schools is invited to apply — parents, caregivers, educators, community leaders, and advocates welcome!
WHAT:
The Parent Engagement Program (PEP) Cohort is an engaging learning experience designed to deepen your understanding of public education in Pitt County and North Carolina.
Participants will:
- Complete a series of learning modules
- Connect with other public school supporters
- Identify barriers impacting education
- Learn how to become effective advocates for students and schools
WHEN:
- English PEP Cohort: 2nd Wednesday of each month, September–April, from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
- Spanish PEP Cohort: 2nd Thursday of each month, September–April, from 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM
WHERE:
PEP Cohorts meet in various locations around Pitt County.
WHY:
Public schools are facing unprecedented challenges. The PEP Cohort equips participants with the knowledge and tools to be informed advocates for a high-quality public education — a right guaranteed by the North Carolina Constitution.
Each monthly session highlights a different topic, including:
- Introduction to Public Schools
- School Leadership
- School Culture
- Academics & Curriculum
- Special Education
- Supporting All Students
- School Funding & Local Governance
PEP participants also engage with:
- School Board Panel
- Teacher Panel
- Special Education Panel
- District Budget Panel
Participants will have many opportunities to participate in immersive education experiences such as:
- Attending a school board meeting
- Volunteering at a school
- Attending PTA or Title I events
