For the ninth consecutive year, Parents for Public Schools of Pitt County (PPS-PC) partnered with Pitt County Schools to host school tours across the district during the annual Spring School Tour Series. From January through April 2025, families had the opportunity to visit all 36 public schools, providing a unique opportunity for those experiencing key educational transitions—such as entering kindergarten, transitioning to middle or high school, or considering transferring into the school district from homeschooling, charter, or private schools.
These tours were designed to give families more than just a look inside the buildings—they offered a personal, in-depth experience of each school’s learning environment, values, and community culture. Since the tour series began in 2016 with about 75 participants, interest and participation have grown steadily. In 2025, 400 individuals took part, reflecting a continued demand for accessible, transparent insight into local public education. The feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed appreciation for the chance to meet school staff, ask questions, and observe day-to-day life within the schools. Likewise, educators and administrators valued the opportunity to welcome new families and showcase the strengths and unique qualities of their school communities.
PPS-PC views these tours as a vital way to build stronger connections between schools and families and to advocate for public education by fostering transparency and trust. The tours not only help parents make more confident enrollment decisions but also strengthen the broader sense of community support around our public schools. PPS-PC is deeply grateful to the schools for providing the tours and to the many parents, guardians, and community members who participated and offered thoughtful feedback. Community engagement helps schools grow and evolve to better serve all students.
The 2026 Spring Tour Series will mark the 10th anniversary of the Spring School Tour Series! PPS-PC looks forward to celebrating this milestone with the community and continuing the shared work of building a strong, inclusive, and connected educational community in Pitt County.
