The first school-based health clinic in Pitt County giving more people access to health care recently opened at JH Rose High school. The clinic is a partnership between Contentnea Health and Pitt County Schools. Dr. Lenker, former PCS Superintendent and Karen Harrington, former PCS Director of Student Services, were two of the people who began working on getting a school-based health clinic for the district more than a decade ago. After a lot of research and many conversations Contentnea Health was identified as an ideal partner. For many years Contentnea Health has been a part of providing health care to students and staff at Greene Central High School.
The clinic at JH Rose High School is open Monday – Friday from 8 am – 4 pm and offers primary medical care, routine check-ups, vaccinations, treatment of serious illnesses, management of chronic conditions, counseling, mental health screenings, and therapy for issues like anxiety, depression and stress. The clinic allows walk-ins and appointments for JH Rose students and staff, with a plan to extend that to other schools soon. To make an appointment, call the clinic directly at 252-351-6096. The clinic will see uninsured patients as well as those with Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. Patient payments are based on a sliding fee according to income. The 1,440 square-foot space on the JH Rose campus includes a patient waiting area, an office, two examination rooms and a lab.
